Pottery classes are run by David for people of all ages
and abilities, making pottery using the electric wheels and by
handbuilding.
Hundred-aker-wood Pottery At Portland Arts
Centre
Hundred-aker-wood pottery is based at the new Portland
Arts Centre
in Brymers Avenue, Fortuneswell.
3 Hour Flexible Sessions
We will be running lessons at the Centre as 3 hour
sessions with flexible times on two nights a week - on Mondays and
Thursdays from 1630 to 2230.
Cards can be bought for 6 or 12 sessions, which last up to 12 months,
bookings can then be made in advance.
All Day Taster Workshops
There will be regular all day Taster Workshops on
Sundays throughout the year from 1000 to 1700. Please
enquire for details.
Also during the summer extra all day taster days will be held regularly.

One to One Tuition
One to One tuition is available for 3hr sessions on the
1st Sunday of each month, 1000 to 1300 and 1400 to 1700
Holiday Time Activities
During holiday periods there will also be daytime
activities which can be booked, with 24 hours notice. For more details follow this link
Hundred-aker-wood Mobile Pottery
Our mobile operation will still be active with classes
at the Milborne St Andrew Sports Club on Wednesday
evenings and the Mission Hall at Sutton Poyntz on
Friday evenings, both from 1900 till 2130.

The reply email will confirm your booking and give
details of payments, which can be made by cheque or alternatively
payment can be made on-line using PayPal (you do not have to have a
PayPal account, just a working credit or debit card - follow this link

Regular Sundays in each Month, suitable for group and

Additional Charges
The above charges include all clay and tools provided.
There is an addition charge per item when it is fired,
£1 per item up to 7 inches tall and £2 per item for all
larger pieces.
There is no charge for non potting adults who accompany
under 16's.
Refreshments, snacks etc on sale at Portland workshop.
Refridgerator and microwave available for use.
Materials and equipment.
A Spencroft or Commercial Clay stoneware clay is used
for throwing. A Earthstone crank clay
is available for handbuilders.
The electric wheels used for each lesson are two Discus Craftsman
potters wheel and four of the new electronic Cowley Hush potters wheels.

Beginners Throwing Course.
During the beginners course the following elements will
be taught, although individuals may find it altered to suit their
ability:
Wedging, centring & coning.
Opening and lifting
Throwing a simple bowl.
Turning
Repetition throwing
Using bats
Throwing deep bowls
Throwing a Vase
Mugs, jugs and cups
Handles and Lids
Plates and footrings
Making glazes
Alternatively hand building skills are taught by David
& Cherry, involving press moulds, coiling, slab building and
sculpture.

Tasters
In addition to the regular lessons, we are staging
pottery taster days and workshops on selected Sundays this year.

For groups
For groups visiting the workshop at the Portland Arts
Centre, there is a fee of £20 a hour for up to 6 people working
with clay. The centre has all facilities.
If you would like Hundred-aker-wood pottery to visit
your social group or event to provide a pottery making demonstration
and give your members a chance to have a go on the wheel themselves
under the tuition and guidance of a potter then please give us a call
to discuss your requirements.
Typically a two and half hour one off local session cost
just £52 with materials, tools and tuition included for the use
of six wheels and hand building opportunities with a special air drying
clay (needs no kiln firing). My whole mobile pottery set up is
available for parties at special rates.
Also we will still be visiting schools to offer a "have
a go" experience to children of all ages.
