Welcome
Hundred-Aker-Wood Pottery is run by David and Cherry Archer. We have a home base at Chickerell on the outskirts of Weymouth, overlooking the famous Chesil Beach within the Dorset and East Devon World Heritage site.
We are now open in our new workshop at the new Portland Arts Centre in Fortuneswell on the Isle of Portland, home to the sailing events at the forthcoming 2012 Olympics.
We love the area, the views, the possibilities and most of all we love pottery.
I love stoneware pottery and I have a fondness for the functional, so I am always on the lookout for fresh ideas to create that perhaps are a bit different.
My best selling item by far is the original Dorset Vertical Chicken Roaster, you can see details and short video clips about the chicken roaster on this website page
With my roaster you can cook chicken the healthy way, the tastiest way and the quicker way. I have sold it around the UK and even abroad now. using PayPal or from my workshop on Portland.
Hundred-aker-wood Plans for 2010
It is so pleasing to be connected to the new Portland Arts Centre. The two ladies in charge, Kat and Sammy, have worked wonders to turn it from a dream into a reality. Come and say hello to everyone and make a trip to see the new Portland Arts Centre in Brymers Avenue, Fortuneswell where there are many working artists resident. For more details about the Arts Centre follow this link and for a map follow this link
Follow this link to see some pictures of our workshops and gallery space at the Arts Centre.
We will be running lessons for the folk of Portland and Weymouth 3 nights a week at the Arts Centre as well as regular sessions on Sundays.
Our mobile operation will still be active with classes at the Milborne St Andrew Sports Club on Wednesday evenings and Sutton Poyntz on Friday evenings.
Also we will still be visiting schools to offer a "have a go" experience to children of all ages. This has proved tremendously popular with groups of adults with learning difficulties as well as the schools.
As you meander through the site you will be able to find out what thoughts I have on the pottery world, watch short clips of myself making my pottery, see eventswhere I will be selling this coming year, see details of the classes, my pottery holiday time courses and tasters, book a pottery demonstration for your local event or purchase a Dorset Vertical Chicken Roaster.
With my portable electric wheels I will be travelling around making my pottery whilst selling at a few shows and fayres that I am attending. A full up to date list is on the events page of this website.
I am also available to enhance your own event. If you would like a potter to demonstrate at your future event then please contact me to discuss details.
